Hippocrates, the great ancient physician, was born in the Greek island of Kos in 460 BC. He grew up on that beautiful Aegean island and was taught the art of medicine by his father, Heraklides, who was also a doctor. He traveled to many parts of Greece, enriched his experience and offered his valuable knowledge to many people who needed him. He founded a great medical school and left a large medical corpus of books that was studied by doctors until the 18th century AD. He died in Larissa in 377 BC. Hippocrates was the first doctor who followed the scientific method in medicine and put the human being at the center of interest. In other words, he served the two great values in which we believe today: Science and Humanism.
